Throw tradition and classical music out the window. Diego Stocco takes a traditional double-bass, heavily modifies it, and combines it with modern-day media software to create a multi-purpose instrument that will completely blow your mind!

This video piece is a stop motion video done using post-it notes on a wall. Square post-it notes were used, and each post-it essentially acts as an individual pixel on an imaginary monitor (The wall) The detail and intricacy that’s been put into this piece is quite stunning.

This piece of work is a simulation of what Earth would look like if the planet possessed Saturn’s rings. The piece is done in a video, showing viewers what the rings would look like from within Earth at various locations. This work showcases something that I’ve dreamed of ever since I was a child. As computer software becomes more and more powerful, artists and researchers alike will be able to produce visuals and simulations that are more and more life-like, soon blurring the line between fantasy and reality.

The piece that I designed uses more primitive, but more financially- and more design-friendly K’NEX pieces, and tries to create an optical illusion using two propellers of different sizes. Every other propeller blade uses a different colour, and both propellers spin in opposite directions in an attempt to merge the movements of the blades of the smaller propeller with the larger one.

The movement of the propeller is controlled using a gear system which allows each propeller to spin in opposite directions.

Notable Setbacks:

- Distance between the two propellers seem to be too far apart for the illusion to be effective.

- Limited supply of K’NEX parts gave affected the parts required to create enough colour contrast for propeller illusion.

- Weight of the propellers too heavy for motor to spin fast enough to create the proper illusory effect.

This is the introduction cinematic from Konami’s well-renowned video game, Metal Gear Solid 4.

The dialogue in this video brings to light how technology is slowly beginning to fuse with humans and the way they use them. This very fact that technology has become so integral in the military changes the way we perceive war, and how the war itself is fought.

Here we see an interesting fusion between technology and art put to practical use. A suspended water sprinkler system appears to be set up so that a program tells the system to execute timed releases of variable water quantities to create what would appear to be scrolling text and animated images.

While not as overtly innovative or technologically penetrating as a computer inside your living room table, this display provides people with an interesting idea of how information can be displayed using a medium that doesn’t necessarily involve a screen or a monitor.

Very soon, the physical 3D concept works that architects use to showcase their buildings and landscapes could be a thing of the past with the introduction with this technology.

Should the display become large enough, no longer will labour have to be used to build a physical miniature replica of future buildings, labour will now be invested onto a design computer where designs will be made digitally, possibly saving time, manpower, and resources that would have normally been invested to build an actual physical replica.

As mobile and wireless device use increases more and more every year, people become more aware of the power consumption issue and just how one can keep the power on their devices running. The Powermat introduces a new possibility with wireless charging.

With this, wireless devices can be charged without adapters or cords, allowing for more convenient and more frequent device charges for owners of wireless and mobile devices. Should power charging become a necessity on a large scale in the future, perhaps we will see charging stations out in the public for people to access should they need more power in their devices… For a fee, of course…

This is self-explanatory along with the video itself. An artist uses a laser which he could use to paint graffiti on buildings in a distance. With this type of technology, it wouldn’t be surprising to one day see the disappearance of billboards and posters for street advertising. The laser in this video is operated by hand, however if this could ever be automated, this can possibly be a very efficient tool for displaying entertainment on advertising along a cityscape.

Taking the computer beyond our tabletops and mirrors, lifelike Japanese robots are now beginning to show up in conventions, showcasing an interactive humanoid automaton that tries to mimic human behaviours and movements. How long will it be before the computer begins to not just be implemented into everyday things that we do, but also begin to replace us in our daily lives as well?
